Illness Policy

Illness Policy

Last Updated: August 2026

At Jasmine's Kingdom Daycare, the health and well-being of every child is extremely important. Our Illness Policy is designed to help reduce the spread of contagious illnesses while providing a safe and healthy environment for all children in our care.

We appreciate the cooperation of all families in helping us keep everyone healthy.

Keeping Children Home

For the health of all children, please keep your child home if they are experiencing symptoms of a contagious illness or are not well enough to comfortably participate in normal daily activities.

Fever Policy

Children should remain home if they have a fever of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher or if they appear ill, uncomfortable, or unable to participate in normal activities.

Children should generally be fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication before returning to daycare, unless otherwise directed by a healthcare provider.

Vomiting

Children who have vomited should remain home until vomiting has completely resolved and they are able to eat and drink normally without recurring symptoms.

Diarrhea

Children experiencing frequent or unexplained diarrhea should remain home until symptoms have resolved and they can comfortably participate in normal daycare activities.

Pink Eye (Conjunctivitis)

Children with suspected or diagnosed pink eye may be asked to remain home, particularly if accompanied by significant redness, drainage, swelling, discomfort, or other symptoms that may indicate a contagious condition.

Parents may be asked to follow the recommendations of their healthcare provider before the child returns.

COVID-19, Influenza (Flu), RSV & Other Contagious Illnesses

We encourage families to follow the recommendations of their healthcare provider and current public health guidance regarding COVID-19, influenza, RSV, and other contagious illnesses.

Children should remain home whenever they are experiencing symptoms that could place other children or caregivers at increased risk of illness.

Returning After Illness

Children may generally return to daycare when they:

  • Feel well enough to participate in normal daily activities.
  • Have been fever-free for at least 24 hours without fever-reducing medication (unless otherwise directed by a healthcare provider).
  • No longer have symptoms that may be contagious.
  • Meet any additional recommendations provided by their healthcare provider.

Medication Policy

Medication will only be administered in accordance with our Medication Policy and applicable New York State requirements.

Prescription medications must generally be provided in their original labeled container with written instructions from the parent or guardian and, when required, the child's healthcare provider.

Please refer to our separate Medication Policy for complete details.

When Parents Will Be Contacted

Parents or guardians will be contacted as soon as reasonably possible if a child:

  • Develops a fever while at daycare.
  • Vomits.
  • Has repeated diarrhea.
  • Appears unusually ill or lethargic.
  • Experiences difficulty breathing.
  • Has an injury requiring medical attention.
  • Shows symptoms that may require the child to be picked up.

If a child becomes too ill to comfortably participate in daycare activities or requires individual care that cannot reasonably be provided while supervising other children, parents will be asked to arrange prompt pick-up.

Working Together

Open communication between families and caregivers helps maintain a healthy environment for everyone. We appreciate parents informing us when their child has been diagnosed with a contagious illness so that appropriate cleaning procedures and notifications, when appropriate, can be made while respecting family privacy.
